Sixty New Eucharistic Ministers For Roscommon Parishes

Bishop Christopher Jones has commissioned sixty new Eucharistic Ministers for service in Co. Roscommon parishes. The Commissioning Ceremonies took place in Tulsk and the Sacred Heart Church Roscommon on Monday May 5th and Tuesday May 6th.
Persons commissioned included women and men from Knockcroghery, Roscommon, Athleague-Fuerty, Ballygar, Newbridge, Ballyleague, Ballagh, Oran, Elphin, Strokestown, Tulsk, Kilglass and Roosky. Many are expected to be involved not only in distributing Holy Communion during Mass but also in bringing Holy Communion to the housebound, an aspect of the ministry that is increasingly valued by persons who are housebound or living in retirement homes.

The sixty participants completed the Elphin diocese’s course for Eucharistic Ministers during Lent in Strokestown and Roscommon. Some will replace Eucharistic Ministers who are retiring. Others will be joining existing Eucharistic Ministers.
During the ceremonies Bishop Jones blessed each Minister with Holy Oils on the forehead and on each hand and prayed that each would faithfully fulfil the ministry they were undertaking. He also thanked the Ministers for the generosity of spirit and prayed that the privilege work they were undertaking would be a source of blessing for them too.
