For the past three years and to the delight of local people, Fr. Gerard McCarthy SVD has been running Scripture courses in Athlone, Boyle and Donomon, Co. Roscommon. They have covered topics such as the Gospels of Mark and Luke, the writings of the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament letters.

Many participants are particularly pleased with the way and manner in which Fr. Gerard opens up the world of Sacred Scripture and for the insights which support their prayer and openness to God.

Our picture shows Fr. Gerard with participants from the Sligo / Boyle region of the Elphin diocese in the Galilee Community, Boyle, where he recently concluded an eight week course on the Infancy Narratives.

Next Spring Fr. Gerard will run courses on St.Matthew’s Gospel in the Athlone, Boyle and Donomon and he is also working on a course on the writings of St. Paul with a view to making it available in the autumn of 2008.
