A message from Bishop Jones regarding the Diocese of Elphin Pastoral Renewal Gathering 2009

Dear sisters & brothers in Christ,

Once again it is my pleasure to invite you to our annual Pastoral Renewal Gathering and to thank you for contributing to the pastoral life of your parish through the ministries you exercise.

I am particularly delighted that Fr. Daniel O'Leary (guest presenter) is coming among us.His writings and presentations at various gatherings in recent years have been consistently uplifting without ever detracting from the challenge of Christian living. As a prophetic voice of hope he continues to support many people toward greater intimacy with the Lord and with each other and we do well to engage with him.

I also welcome the fact that the afternoon session will integrate an introducton and launch of our diocese's Advent Prayer Initiative, which neighbouring dioceses have also adopted. It marks a very concrete effort to nurture us as a praying Church. I also welcome the fact that delegates are to be invited to reflect on the considerable challenges we must face in relation to catechesis. My prayer is that the conversation that shall begin here will be taken up by all Parish Pastoral Councils, Apostolic Groups, Ecclesial and Prayer Groups.

Responsibility for booking rests with delegates.A small number of places are available forpersons who wish to avail of the Gathering for personal spiritual enrichment and nourishment. Please contact Ann for more information.
