Easter 2012 Message from Bishop Jones “The Lord has really Risen! He has appeared to Peter.” (Lk 24:32)

easterThe past is over and the future has yet to come. We cannot but live in the “now” of this particular year - 2012. We have war from Afghanistan to Africa. People want and go hungry in countries rich and poor. Nations like our own are bowed down under the yoke of economic woes. Violence on our streets and heartbreak in our homes is common. Our church stands in need of renewal. Loved ones have left our shores in search of work. Friends or family may have been diagnosed with difficult illnesses. For some the loss and mourning of a loved one has marked the months gone by. Yet it is into each and every one of these 2012 situations, that this year, the Easter Message is proclaimed just as it has been since that first Easter morning. Proclaimed with vigour by Christian people everywhere - “The Lord has really Risen! He has appeared to Peter.” (Lk 24:32)

Local Commission Members sworn in for Father Edward Flanagan of Boys Town Cause

On Tuesday April 3rd during a short ceremony at St Mary’s Presbytery in Sligo Bishop Jones swore in representatives from the Diocese of Elphin who are to assist with progressing the cause for the Beatification and Canonisation of Ballymoe native – Father Edward Flanagan.

Sligo Cathedral Hosts Vigil For Atonement And Healing

frontpageThe Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sligo is organising a 24 hour Vigil of Atonement and Healing beginning on Friday 24th February at 8am.  The purpose of the vigil is to pray for forgiveness for the hurt caused by clerical child abuse and an invitation is extended to the people of Sligo to come and participate.
