About the Project

'Building Catholic Ireland' is a research project underway the School of Histories and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin since 2011.

The aim of this study is to establish the scale of church building activity by the Irish Catholic Church between 1800 and 1932. The relationship between expenditure and quality of design and execution will also be explored.

NB This is the beta version of the full Building Catholic Ireland site which is under construction. When fully developed the site will have images of art, architecture and sculpture from Irish Catholic churches that were built between 1800 and 1932. It will be a key resource for teaching and learning of Irish cultural history across all levels.

If you have information about an Irish church built during this period, we would love to hear from you via the contact form (scroll down past the links). You may also contribute directly to our Architecture Survey here
