PPC Pilot Prayer Initiative 2016 – 2019

The Diocese of Elphin recently (December 2017) published a prayer  resource to support Parish Pastoral Councils (PPCs) pray  together at the beginning of their monthly meetings.

Ten PPCs have kindly offered to pilot the prayer resource:

Rosses Point
St. Anne’s Sligo

Each monthly prayer service contains two short psalms, a short  hymn that can be said or sung, a reading from Sacred Scripture and a related teaching from the  Catechism of the Catholic Church for reflection, some prayers of intercession and a closing prayer of blessing.

We hope the prayer services will support PPCs give praise and honour to God and support PPCs towards a deeper  understanding of their mission.

It is not envisaged that each of the piloting PPCs will use all of each monthly prayer service during the first year of the pilot initiative.  For example, PPCs may begin by saying the hymn together, reading the selected scripture passage and praying the intercessions.  That stated, it is hoped that every PPC will take on using more of the prayer resource over the  three years, i.e arriving at a point where ten to fifteen minutes is devoted to prayer and related discussion at the beginning of every PPC meeting.

The diocese will also seek periodic feedback (nothing demanding) from participating PPCs, i.e. as to the helpfulness of the resource and suggestions as to how it can be improved.

Other PPCs are welcome to join the initiative.
