Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine – Youth Section

For the first time this year the annual Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock on August 17th last had a dedicated programme for Young People led by Deacon Wando de Araujo. Thirty six young people from fourteen parishes followed a special programme hosted by the Knock Youth Ministry Team before the official ceremonies began at 2.30pm. By all accounts it was a great experience for those who attended and one that will be repeated at future diocesan pilgrimages.

Our annual Diocesan pilgrimage  to Lourdes begins on the 28th August to the 2nd of September, led by Bishop Kevin Doran.

To mark the fortieth anniversary of our diocese travelling on pilgrimage to Lourdes, a Prayer Card featuring the Diocesan Badge was commissioned.

The prayers are a resource for parishes and prayer groups - who are invited to unite in prayer with our pilgrimage - especially with all those who are sick.

The Prayer Card is a reflection that leads us into the mysteries of the Rosary, where, with Mary, we encounter the Gospel episodes of the life and ministry of Jesus and we recall and retell the Gospel story in the timeless rhythm of the 'Ave Maria' - which is recited in all the languages of God's people in Lourdes.

May our Lourdes Prayer Card gather us all at the well of inner peace to pray with Mary, for she is still, with the holiness of God. We pray with Mary - who rested her heart in God's heart of love.

Homily of Kevin Doran, Bishop of Elphin at Knock Novena – August 17th 2014

Some 20 years ago, a significant change took place in Rome. It was not of universal significance, but it was important enough for a small group of Irish seminarians. They were, for the first time, allowed home for Christmas. One of the more entrepreneurial students set about block booking flights, in the hope of getting his own flight free. He had just one concern. "Do you think it will be ok with the bishops" he asked me." I told him I thought the bishops might have more to do than to be worrying about the flight plans of seminarians. "Well, I was just thinking" he said, "….the whole future of the Irish Church …. on one airplane".
