Father John Leogue College of the Immaculate Conception Ethos Award 2017

For her dedicated commitment and selfless service to the College, carried out in her own unique way, Summerhill College Sligo had the honour of conferring the 2017 Father John Leogue College of the Immaculate Conception Ethos Award to Sr Patricia Tomlinson rsm.

This year in response to a request from the selection committee to the College Board of Management the award was conferred on Sr Patricia Tomlinson rsm for her dedicated, generous and heart-filled service as member of the College Board of Management and Chairperson of College Finance Committee. Over the years her exemplary service, dedicated enthusiasm and professional competence has played a large part in guiding and assisting the College to where it is today. Sr Patricia’s genuine interest in and concern for staff and students has been unwavering. Working in an entirely voluntary capacity, she has contributed enormously to the organisation of various College events over the years and has been an advocate for the provision of a wide variety of educational and extra-curricular opportunities for students.

Sister Patricia carries in her heart the philosophy of former Summerhill boy and now Servant of God Edward Flanagan that “there is no such thing as a bad boy”. She is a tireless champion of any student who finds himself in difficulty. Sr Patricia has and continues to demonstrate a lived “commitment to contributing to the life of the College community in a practical manner which focuses on living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” She is above all, as the College motto so striking puts it, not just a hearer but a real “doer of the word (James 1:22).
