National Board for Safeguarding
The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI) is a not for profit organisation funded by the following three bodies:
- Irish Missionary Union (IMU)
- The Conference of Bishops in Ireland
- Conference of Religious of Ireland (CORI)
It assists the development of policy, procedures and practices across the Church in Ireland. It offers advice on best practice, including training and advice on case management and implementation of national standards and guidance. It monitors the practice of child safeguarding across the Church.
The Document “Safeguarding Children – Standards and Guidance for the Catholic Church in Ireland 2009” is the primary document from which Diocesan Policy, Procedures, Structures and Practices are developed and audited. It is in line with the Statutory Document “Children First 2011” which provides the statutory framework from which all Child Protection and Safeguarding measures are derived.
